Instructions for use
DINABASE®, for dental use only, is a material suitable for dentures and partials. This material is specific for:
- dynamico-functional impressions
- direct temporary relining
- self-adhesive stabilization
- tissue conditioning.
Material
DINABASE® is a single component, high-viscous, monomer-free mixture of vinyl-acrylic resins and suitable dispersants.
DINABASE® can be hot worked, while cooling makes it hard. The gradual reticulation of the material occurs on contact with the fluids secreted by the mucous membranes, without causing cracks or roughness, either on the surface or deeply.
DINABASE® is indicated for temporary relining and for tissue conditioning. Moreover, it is particularly suitable for taking dynamico-functional impressions of dentures, which are very accurate and the borders of which follow the functional movements of the cheeks and muscles.
This is possible because DINABASE® is able to keep unaltered the feature of self-modelling until removal from the oral cavity. This feature gives the denture excellent adhesiveness, thus making the patient comfortable.
Depending on each specific application, DINABASE® can be left in the oral cavity from 1 to 30 days (see "Specific Applications").
Special features
DINABASE® is a single-component, completely non-toxic and anallergic material; it doesn't absorb water and is able to keep unaltered the feature of plasticity, while respecting tissues and favouring their self-modelling.
In the presence of mucous membranes which have been previously damaged by older dentures, the use of DINABASE® has got a conditioning action that allows to detect decubitus areas and to re-establish good tissue health.
DINABASE® has excellent adhesiveness to acrylic resin and does not require bonding agents or monomers as an intermediate layer.
DINABASE® doesn't alter the taste of food, makes the patient comfortable and gives him an immediate sense of well-being and stability. Moreover, due to the absence of porosities, the flavour and appearance of the material are kept unaltered in time.
Microbic adhesion tests have shown a low adhesive capacity degree of microorganisms on DINABASE®, above all for gram-positive bacteria and mycetes. The decrease in adhesiveness can be put down to the fact that this is "reversible type" adhesiveness, which prevents colonization.
General use
DINABASE® is to be used with the Dispenser Syringe provided for this purpose (picture 1).
- Plunge DINABASE® cartridge into a thermostatic kettle at 45° - 50°C (113° - 122°F), for one or two minutes (picture 2).
- At the end of the heating phase, dry and insert the cartridge into the tube of the Dispenser Syringe. The aluminium bottom of the cartridge has to be turned inside (picture 3).
- Reassemble the Dispenser Syringe and, by strongly pushing down with a slight rotating movement, perforate DINABASE® cartridge with the punch provided for this purpose (picture 4).
- Apply pressure with the hand on the piston of the Dispenser Syringe and let DINABASE® come out (picture 5).
- Apply DINABASE® along the denture borders. The denture has to be perfectly clean, degreased and dry (picture 6).
- After pulling DINABASE along the borders, work the material with the fingers by following the contours of the denture basis, by connecting the borders and by applying slight pressure (picture 7). It is advisable to use DINABASE® sparingly and not to exceed the actual dosage required by every single restoration (if necessary, the technician can add some material later).
- Insert the denture into the oral cavity and let the patient perform the correct functional movements for at least 5 minutes. Before removing the denture, let DINABASE® cool down by having the patient rinse his mouth with cold water (2-3 glasses).
- After removal, plunge the denture into cold water for a few seconds (DINABASE® becomes whitish with cooling).
- With a hot knife, cut away surplus material, if there is any. Use the same knife to finally connect the denture borders, in order to get perfect sealing (picture 8).
- Plunge the denture into a thermostatic kettle at 45° - 50°C (113° - 122°F) for a few seconds (picture 9). Take it out and wait a few seconds for the material to reach body temperature. At that point, replace the denture into the oral cavity for another 5 minutes and let the patient perform the correct functional movements.
- After the first visit, the patient can go home and the material will remain in the mouth according to the time and to the working method required by each single application (see Specific Applications).
- Finally, after taking the impression, the cast is poured and the denture basis definitely relined according to the conventional techniques.
Specific Applications
Dynamico-functional impressions and replica of the borders
For this application it is advisable to leave DINABASE® in the mouth for no longer than 8 days. Anyway, one or two days are enough for a correct and very precise dynamico-functional impression taking.
Important!
For a precise and functional definitive relining it is advisable to carefully control the impression taken.
Unload all denture areas and borders showing minimum thickness of DINABASE® or letting the basis of methacrylate show through, and cover with new DINABASE®. In fact, the showing through of the basis is due to overloading or to the borders hindering dynamico-functional movements.
Once DINABASE® has been replaced and adjusted (without exceeding the actual dosage required), follow the technique described in the first part (see: "General Use", steps: g,h,i,l,m,n.
Direct temporary or provisional relining
Before applying DINABASE® onto the denture basis, carefully look for interferences or retention zones and unload the denture in those areas.
After applying DINABASE® and after taking the denture out of the oral cavity, make sure by the first visit that there is no overloading and that the borders do not hinder dynamico-functional movements. Add some more DINABASE® without exceeding the actual dosage required, plunge the denture into the thermostatic kettle and replace it into the mouth for another 5 minutes.
Repeat these steps until you get an even thickness of DINABASE® on the denture basis.
For this application, DINABASE® is to be left in the mouth for no longer than 30 days; if left longer, DINABASE® might give rise to microporosities on the surface.
In these cases, in order to immediately transform the impression taken with conventional relining, it is advisable to cover DINBASE® with a low-viscosity fluid for immediate impressions.
This trick allows for a perfectly smooth stone model.
On the contrary, if it shouldn't be possible to definitely reline the denture after 30 days, completely replace DINABASE® with new material and send the patient to the next appointment.
Conditioning of tissues and oral mucosa
With DINABASE® it is possible to detect decubitus areas showing tissue inflammation due to older denture overloading and to perfectly heal them through proper conditioning.
It is advisable to use this method whenever making a new appliance for a denture-wearer.
This way, the technician is sure to achieve a precise dynamico-functional impression on a conditioned and healthy mucosa.
Follow the steps described in the paragraph on "Direct temporary or provisional relining".
Important: After treatment, it is better to use the same denture as an individual impression tray.
Adaptation of older dentures and self-adhesive stabilization
Follow the steps indicated for "Direct temporary or provisional relining".
Adaptation of immediate prosthesis
After unloading the areas showing interferences or overloading, if there are any, apply DINABASE® onto the denture basis and follow the steps described for "Direct temporary or provisional relining".
After tissue-healing, DINABASE® can be left in the mouth for no longer than 30 days and is then to be replaced each month with new material, until tissues and oral mucosa have completely matured.
Cautions!
- During the heating phase, mind not to exceed 50°C (122°F). Higher temperatures might give rise to porosities and alter some components of the material.
- Avoid presence of water between DINABASE® and the acrylic denture basis. Water might provoke bubbles and reduce adhesive capacity.
- Inform the patient that he will have to rinse his mouth with plenty of cold water before taking out the denture, for the first 8 days.
- In particularly hot climates, it is advisable to immediately pour with stone the impression taken, to avoid possible deformation.
Contraindications
Definitive relining.
Cleaning of the denture
Always use plenty of cold water. For the first 8 days a (soft) toothbrush may be used only on teeth; after this period, it may also be used on the surface of the denture basis, taking care not to scrub the denture borders.
It is possible to use neutral liquid soaps, while use of any self-detergent is not advisable.
Conservation
DINABASE® can be stored for at least 3 years at room temperature (25°C - 77°F). It is recommended to store the product in a cool and dry place.
DINABASE® has been developed for dental use only and must be used according to the instructions listed above. The manufacturer disclaims all responsibility for damage caused by misuse.
The user is bound to personally control that the product be suitable for a "specific application" before use, especially if this application is not listed in the instructions reported above.
